Dec. 29 The Chicago Pedway: Your Secret Weapon Against the Weather

By Arin

One of my favorite things (aka lifesaver) in Chicago is the Pedway system (Chicago’s “secret weapon”) And if you don’t know what I’m referring to, your day is about to get a lot brighter! The Chicago Pedway is a series of tunnels that attach to: skyscrapers, hotels, train stations, and retail stores throughout the central business district. This Pedway covers more than 40 blocks and it contains shops, restaurants, and art to help pedestrians travel during un-accommodating weather (every day of winter).
Even Batman found the Chicago Pedway handy…

(Via Chicago Now — “Millenium Station at Randolph and Michigan (Batman cruised through it on his Batpod in The Dark Knight)…”

Easy access to all life’s necessities

Just ask the residents at Aqua (225 N. Columbus) what a lifesaver this pedway is! Easily connecting them to necessities like Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks, nail salons and more without even touching outside! As of right now, Aqua, Park Millennium and Heritage at Millennium Park are the only residential buildings that are connected.

Fun fact: Construction started in 1951 and has continued to grow the Pedway system since then!
